Trust Your Instincts

A new print is in the shop!

Trust Your Instincts

“Trust Your Instincts” is certainly a personal piece in that I really do try to do just that, and when I am feeling a bit flustered or out of sorts I remind myself to trust my instincts, and usually they are so right.

It's a little mantra to tell yourself or others—and I just might have to hang this guy above my desk for a daily reminder.

It's gray and chilly here in the northwest so a good day for some cleaning and grocery shopping before settling down for some portrait work.

Happy Monday!

New work at Urban Outfitters

I feel like I have been waiting to share this for forever. Maybe only a few months, but still…

We have new work at Urban Outfitters that you can see right here! These bearded guys are printed on wood, which is most fitting and sturdy! They are ready to hang.

So good

Check it out!

For the Birds tattoo

For the Birds tattoo

Zach sent me these photos of himself with his new tattoo of "For the Birds," and I cannot believe what an amazing job his tattoo artist did. And the placement on his arm? I love it! Not to mention I get so unbelievably flattered and humbled when someone sends me an image of a tattoo of my work.

Thanks so much Zach! He's in Portland so I'm still checking forearms all over the place. : )

Summer haircut

summer haircut
I am not a lover of pictures of myself but my good friend Helen cut my hair when I was in St. Louis (my annual haircut). I have my bangs and layers back! She works so fast and always gives me the cut that I have in mind.

Most of the time it will be in braids until it COOLS DOWN.

OK, more than enough photos. I hope you all have A HAPPY 4TH OF JULY! (even if it's just a regular Saturday for you)

New technology

OK, so I have had Drew's old Mac for a long time. The computer is over 7 years old. I felt as though, although slow, it still met my needs. Well, after a long and fruitful life, on our trip it broke… literally. A hinge just snapped off. So, I finally had to get a new computer. This sounds crazy but I haven't purchased a new computer since I was 17!! I've had two used ones that were great and we bought the Mac Pro about 3½ years ago for the business, but day-to-day that's Drew's computer. This one is all mine!

I love it and am frankly still afraid of it (I've only had it for two days). Another hand-me-down, our old camera, also broke (the button to take the picture stopped working, which is known to happen with the little Canons, but it was almost as expensive to fix as to get a new one).

SO, for my birthday Drew got me the Canon SD960 IS, which has great reviews, takes great photos and even HD video!

Here are a few photos of my favorite subject, and they're not retouched in any way.

Now that I have a working camera I can show you our kitchen hutch (formerly at the antique mall). We use a lot of grains, beans, oatmeal and whatnot, and this was a perfect fit. All the bags of stuff no longer live in our kitchen cabinets, eating up precious space.

OK, today's post was a bit of randomness but all good stuff that I wanted to share. : )

We're back!

It was a wonderful trip back to St. Louis that, despite the heat, went way too quickly. I couldn't go back home without hitting my favorite thrift stores.

The vintage toy horse was so creepy and fantastic and that table and chairs were like $60… ohh the difference in price from here to there…

Meshuggah

There was an iced mocha and bagel from what is still my favorite coffee place.

There were cats. My mom's cat Esme jumps in the refrigerator each and every time you open it and refuses to get out.

Get out of there Esme!

Drew's grandpa got a new kitten, and it's just about the cutest and tiniest thing I have ever seen.

and of course, there were friends. Thanks guys for making the trip so great!

What I've been up to (Part II)

My sister Hillary and our good, good family friend Blake left earlier in the trip to get back to work, but my mom stayed for 10 days. Along with Strawberry picking at Sauvie Island Farms (truly one of my favorite places—and we were the ONLY two there) and Multnomah Falls, we also went to the always-tranquil Rhododendron Garden. It's just a few miles from our house and is overflowing with beauty and ducks! You can sit on one of their many benches after you walk around and just take it all in. There is a produce stand nearby where you can buy duck feed. If you need peaceful alone time, this place is for you. Can you imagine just sitting by the water with a sketch book? Nice. Here are some photos from that.

What I've been up to (Part I)

Long time no see! I can't believe it's been just over two weeks since my last post. I had my family in town for the first time since we moved here, so that was tons of fun. My show at Redux opened. Of course, portraits are still keeping me very busy as well. And we leave to go back to St. Louis in under a week. Yaayyy my birthday in St. Louis! So, today I wanted to share a couple of the more recent portraits I've done. Many of the portraits can be seen in this Flickr set. You can e-mail me about them too.

I'll be back tomorrow… I promise!
